All these cut offs are due to the start of the Metropolitan Borough on April 1st 1974. I think at this time Chadderton, Crompton, Royton and Saddleworth were all incorporated into the others. However I will do some further checking. 

Middleton disappears and becomes part of Rochdale RD but Failsworth becomes part of Oldham RD but again I think this is hidden in the books listed above.
